And Now It Begins marks a two-month collaborative process of research, workshops and conversations between 12 artists. Together we explore where we might begin or end this process. With overlapping narratives and interrupted space we are thinking about authority, community and play within the gallery.
We might have began with some words on a page that we spoke aloud to one another from a place where we stored the things we were making, or thinking about or intending to make. When we spoke those words we moved and spoke those words again, till our words were each other’s.
We stored our findings and research and began sharing. There were like shots of hands cooking and blind spot explanations. So we have built this on our access to each other and this might be where we began.
The space will be in progress, with some movement throughout the week, we might move with the things we make and change and repeat, or things might remain fixed. Things might be eaten, or shown to you near ovens that live within the walls downstairs.
We are between a border so let’s talk about borders and authority in a space where narratives move amongst another, where ends might not meet. Let’s talk about what happens when we mark our process, when we pin this moment and begin to explore our processes, with you, in this space.
